From cybernetics to artificial intelligence

The ELTE Institute for Continuing Legal Education 2023. on 10 November – its 50th anniversary. on the occasion of its 50th anniversary – held a professional conference on cybernetics and artificial intelligence.

The event is packed with interesting civil law, data protection, administrative and regulatory issues of MI one of the most thought-provoking presentations was on the possible role of AI (artificial intelligence) as a legal entity, presented by Dr. Attila Menyhárd, Professor of Law, University of Vienna (

A similarly important topic, the issue of data protection, was addressed in the presentation of Dr. Gábor Pataki, Senior Research Fellow (
Personal data protection in AI systems
). One of the most interesting parts of his presentation was when he explained that accepting Netflix’s recommendation for the selection of the movie of the night is an automatic decision, which is subject to specific rules in data processing, and that whether the processing is done on paper or electronically is irrelevant for the protection of personal data.
